Although variations of reflexology have been in existance since ancient times, modern reflexology was

developed by an American physiopherapist Eunice Ingham in the 1930's Ingham identified reflex points

on the feet which correspond with parts of the body. She discovered that manipulating thes points could

trigger a positive healing effect on the body. A professionally trained reflexologist can detect subtle

changes or "imbalances" in the reflex points of the feet and by working these points may help to restore the body's natural equilibrium. Tensions are eased, circulation improved, toxins eliminated. Leaving the client feeling relaxed and balanced on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.

Can anyone benefit?
Almost anyone can benefit in some way from reflexology. Aside from the relaxation, stress relief, improved energy levels and a general sense of wellbeing reflexology may also bring relief from a wide range of chronic and acute conditions. Reflexology is suitable for all ages including babies and children.

Please note that due to Advertising Standards Authority regulations, Reflexology Practitioners are restricted in the claims they can make for the treatment. Practitioners cannot diagnose or offer a "cure" Nor can they claim that the treatment "can" or "will" benefit a client only that it "might" Regulations also prevent Practitioners advertising that Reflexology will help specific named medical conditions, hence only general conditions and terms are referenced.

What happens in a treatment?
Your appointment will last for approximately one hour. On your first appointment the therapist will take a full consultation to ascertain your medical history and any present health issues, lifestyle etc. This is to gain a better picture of you and to help to customise the treatment plan,  to your specific needs and expectations. This information is of course completely confidential.
The treatment: You will either lay on a couch or in a reclining chair with your shoes and socks removed. The therapist will then  observe the feet and apply a massage cream, she will begin by gently massaging the feet to promote relaxation. She will then start the treatment proper by applying pressure using her thumbs and fingers sometimes knuckles, noting
any areas of congestion. To complete the treatment the therapist will hold specific points on the foot, the client may feel tingling or heat in the body while this is carried out.  During the treatment, you may feel some discomfort in  places, but it is fleeting and may be an indication of congestion or an imbalance in the corresponding part of the body. For the most part, the sensation is pleasant and soothing.
How will you feel after the treatment?
The effects of reflexology are unique to each person and to each treatment. Most people however, feel extremely relaxed yet uplifted.

How many treatments do I require?
This depends on your requirements which will be discussed with you at the time. However please note that best results will be found upon completion of at least 3 treatments with a weekly interval between each session.
